There is a new update online for the Crash Recovery System  for iOS. In this newsletter we also offer you a new scenario to use when practicing with the Crash Recovery System. We often get asked how rescue workers should handle charging points for electric vehicles. That is why this newsletter includes a brief explanation and instructions on about the issue.

NEW VERSION of CRS for iOS (version 2.30)
A new version of CRS for iOS was released (version 2.30) last week. This version is necessary because the current Apple provisioning profile expires on 7 June 2017, so please update your system as soon as possible. The new profile will exire on 21 April 2018. Simply follow the instructions on iCRS (a message will appear informing you that a new version is available) or install the latest software version via Moditech's website. Users of the Allianz App can use another link that will be sent by Allianz.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not install this update, your CRS installation will no longer work after 7 June. It is not necessary to uninstall the app first. Installing the new version will automatically replace the old one. This is also the last version that supports iOS 7 or lower. Subsequent updates will only be for iOS 8 and higher. If you do not update in time, you can always install the new version via our website using the following link:


There are several ways to charge an electric or hybrid vehicle:

1.) Charging via a standard 220V, 10A power outlet:
The charging is protected by a current limiter (10A) that is incorporated into the cable: 1 phase, AC, 100% charging, charging time, 10 to 12 hours.   

2.) Charging via a charging point on a public road or at home: 380V, 32A, 3 phase, AC.
3.) Fast charging on a public road: 400V, 32A, 3 phase, DC.  


The charging is always protected by means of earth leakage switches. These can be AC or DC earth leakage switches.

- Make sure the charging process has been turned off. First check the charging point.
- Check whether the earth leakage switches are activated.
- Charging stations along the motorway often have an emergency stop button that interrupts the charging process. 

- Unplugging the vehicle often fails because the plug is locked during charging.
- You will need either the keys or a password to disconnect the vehicle.

The charging process is automatically interrupted by pressing the emergency stop button (red button in photo) or when an earth leakage switch is activated in the power distribution unit (PDU). The relevant group in the PDU can also be switched off manually. It is therefore important that if there is a car park with multiple charging points in the service area, the position of the PDU and the groups used for the charging points are clearly indicated on the accessibility map for this location!


This practice scenario has the following objectives:
- Requesting of vehicle information via the registration number or manually (CRS)
- Electric vehicle stabilization
- Delivery van extrication techniques

- Traffic accident involving injury.
- Two vehicles with one on its side. Driver side up.
- One victim in the vehicle lying on its side.


An accident occurred while a vehicle was reversing. As a result, a delivery van has overturned and come to rest against a tree or pole. The driver´s section of the delivery van hit the tree. The vehicle that caused the accident has come to rest against the rear doors of the van. It is clear that the rescue operation needs to be via the rear doors. The vehicle blocking the rear doors cannot be moved. Because the vehicle has overturned and only the roof has been struck in the collision, no airbag has been activated. In this situation, the electric drive is still in operation (1). For this scenario, use the registration number: 9-VSJ-00 (Dutch license plates can be requested for users of the CRS RDW Edition). If you use the CRS Standard Edition without license plate request, you can write down the make and model of the vehicle or VIN number (VIN Edition) to select the vehicle. Position the service plug / emergency switch as shown in the CRS (see photo).

As the delivery van is on its side, it is not easy to turn off the delivery van via using the key/dashboard (primary method). The exercise team should use the service / emergency deactivation switch. Adhere the image of this emergency switch in the correct position. By removing the image they removed the switch (2).

After rescuers have properly secured the deactivation switch, they can proceed with the rescue operation.  Rescuers will want to use the CRS to identify the locations of SRS and other rescuer-relevant components in the vehicle before any cutting or other extrication evolutions are performed. Remember, it is imperative to know what's inside!
