News from Moditech Rescue Solutions BV

In this month's newsletter, we are focussing on a new development in vehicle technology, the 12V battery fitted in the HV-battery pack. What does this mean for emergency responders?

More on this topic in our newsletter!

In the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid and the Kia Niro Hybrid, the 12V battery has been relocated in the HV-battery pack. This relates to the Lithium Ion Polymer battery which will replace the conventional lead battery.

Due to the position of the battery, it is no longer possible to disconnect the battery in the way that is common for most vehicles in emergency situations. It is no longer possible to disconnect the battery cables. The vehicle has been fitted with a deactivation point for the earth cable in order to cut off electric power.

By clicking on the pictogram of the battery in the Crash Recovery System, instructions will be given as to how and when this type of battery can be disconnected.
