CRS Case study: The importance of updating
In Rotterdam, Netherlands, last month an electric Volkswagen ID.5 drove into a garden and hit a family house. As this might have damaged the car’s battery pack, which in that case would pose a fire hazard, the first responders were called for help. With an up-to-date version of the Crash Recovery System, the first responders had easy access to all safety information about the crashed vehicle.
Our data shows that users not always use the latest database version of the Crash Recovery System. By downloading the monthly Database Update, a user can access all safety information of the latest vehicles. And this can be of great value in practice, as shown in the above example.
Because the first responders at the accident scene of this accident had the most recent database update of the Crash Recovery System, they could immediately respond by requesting the vehicle’s registration number and going through the deactivation process. After using the information in the Crash Recovery System to stabilize and deactivate the ID.5, a tow truck using a crane removed the vehicle from the yard.
