Rising EV sales figures; more significant risk of accidents
The number of electric car sales is growing rapidly. In 2022, many new electric cars were registered, with a new total of 7.8 million worldwide. That amounts to 1 in 10 new cars, an increase of 68 percent compared to 2021. Of course, these are positive figures for reducing CO2 emissions, but it also has another side to it.
Electric cars are about 50 percent more likely to be involved in one-sided accidents and accidents with other vehicles than cars with conventional internal combustion engines. This is according to figures from a major European insurance company. EV drivers who do not handle the high power and torque carefully, can lose control of the car, with all the consequences.
Our Database Team is continuously drawing and collecting safety information from many passenger vehicles and other electric-powered vehicles. This includes EVs from established names as well as Asian newcomers to Europe, such as BYD, Hongqi, NIO, Ora, WEY and Zeekr. Download the latest database update of our Crash Recovery System on your mobile device to access these new vehicles!
