Tesla Semi Truck added to the CRS
Emission-free transport is part of global plans to reduce CO2 emissions. Electric trucks play an ever-increasing role in the ongoing energy transition. Tesla, known as a manufacturer of electric passenger cars, already announced in 2017 that it would also focus on the transport sector with the Semi Truck. By the end of 2022, the first Semis were delivered and, therefore, also added to the Crash Recovery System.
The state-of-the-art Semi, like all Tesla cars, is fully electric and, according to Tesla, has a range of around 800 kilometres on a full charge and is loaded with 37,000 kg. The Semi has a 1,000 kWh battery pack to cover this considerable distance with this weight. The truck is equipped with three electric motors. One motor is on the front axle, while the other two are in the rear and can be switched off to save energy.
Safety and CRS
The Semi has active safety features that ensure traction and stability under all conditions. According to Tesla, the design reduces rollover risk and cabin intrusion in case of an accident. The Crash Recovery System provides first responders with crucial information, the location of safety components and the procedure for powertrain shutdown for the Semi Truck.
