Crash Recovery System OEM 3D vehicle data
The next step: 3D vehicle data
We have been working for some time behind the scenes on how to display our Crash Recovery System data in a 3D environment. A three-dimensional display of vehicle information in the CRS offers many advantages to first responders at the scene of an accident. Furthermore, we also use the 3D data for training purposes for first responders.
AR version of the CRS
An Augmented Reality version of the CRS has several advantages over the 2D version. For instance, the location of safety components can be made even more precise due to the depth display. A user can scale up the vehicle in real size to compare it with the actual vehicle, walk around the vehicle in three dimensions and examine the vehicle’s components. In an accident situation, the damage is also clearly visible in comparison to the standard location of the safety component.
Apart from the CRS, we also use the 3D vehicle data in our training modules for first responders. This allows them to practice with modern vehicles anytime, anywhere, without having to be physically present on location. The Crash Recovery System is an integrated part of the exercise in our Virtual Reality App. The effects of an accident and the visual aspects of the crashed car are combined with data from the CRS.
OEM 3D vehicle data
To be able to add 3D models from different vehicle manufacturers in parallel with our 2D version, we depend on the manufacturers’ cooperation. Fortunately, we are getting more and more Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) willing to do this, including Hyundai. We received excellent 3D material from Hyundai for the hydrogen-electric powered Elec Citybus. We also develop 3D information ourselves if it is not available from a manufacturer. The photos below show that vehicle information in 3D models can be extremely valuable for first responders.
We hope to receive 3D information from other vehicle manufacturers shortly in order to provide first responders with even better relevant information about the vehicle at the scene of an accident.
