CRS SmartPort Edition
With the SmartPort Edition of the Crash Recovery System, Moditech is entering a new market: safe port handling and sea transport of vehicles. With Ferries and RoRo (Roll-on-Roll-off) cargo, cars, vans and trucks are transported between ports, which is a lot faster and convenient than transport over land.
When these shipments contain vehicles with alternative propulsion, risks like battery fires increase. And on top of that, on water the professional fire brigade is not present but the ferry company itself is responsible for On-Board Fire Prevention and any required emergency response. Moditech has developed a solution that allows the ferry companies to collect the rescue information of all vehicles during loading. This is an automated process that creates an electronic file of every vehicle on the vessel, ready to be used in case of an emergency at sea.
Safety is a hot topic for transport over sea. The transportation of vehicles with alternative propulsion over sea has only increased the concerns, especially when additional hazardous substances are also shipped, for example propane pressure gas cylinders. And both space and fire-fighting equipment are limited. The shipping companies must ensure that a safety data- and/or rescuesheet is present at sea, and port and shipping personnel must ensure the safe shipment of vehicles with new propulsion types.
Accurate information about deactivation procedures and what to do during fire situations is essential. With the CRS, port and shipping crews can request the correct information about the vehicle in advance using the numberplate or by manually selecting the vehicle model. From the second half of 2022, Moditech will carry out the first pilot projects for the Smart Automatic NumberPlate Recognition (ANPR) vehicle selection and pre-identification of the vehicle by linking the rescue information from the CRS to the booking or Gate-In systems of the RoRo ferrylines or port terminals. All for safe, secure, fast and easy check-in before the ferry departure!
